Dqae Qare San Lodge is a unique Kalahari experience as it is owned and run by the San (Bushmen) people. Set up as a social enterprise the Lodge supports the local San D'Kar community through employment and is a crucial project in the San's quest for cultural survival. At Dqae Qare you will be welcomed by the San themselves who will prepare your rooms and meals and ensure your authentic experience of San culture through the range of cultural activities they offer, Accommodation and facilities are basic but clean and functional and the Lodge is located on their beautiful 7500 hectare game farm. At Dqae Qare you can enjoy a genuine experience of the open spaces and quiet peace of the Kalahari in the company of the wonderfully open and friendly San people.
With sixteen en-suite rooms and an extensive campsite with full ablutions under the Camel thorns, there are accommodation options for all tastes. Activities include bush walks, traditional dancing, fire making, craft making, trapping and story telling. Guests can choose from individual activities or the comprehensive full day San Experience with a ten member San Dance group. Individual packages are also offered and can include days with the San far out on the farm.
The Dqae Qare game farm measures 16km in length and 10km wide. Guests are welcome to explore the farm in their own 4×4 on a network of tracks guided by a comprehensive map and signage. The farm is well stocked with a wide range of plains game including giraffe, eland, zebra, wildebeest, hartebeest, kudu, gemsbok, warthog and ostrich. Although rarely seen the farm is home to a host of predators from cheetah, leopard and brown hyena to wild cat, caracal, jackal and honey badger. Above all the farm is typical of the central Kalahari thornveld with wide open spaces and genuine solitude.
